Thank you to Representative David Santiago for honoring the 25th anniversary of Southwest Volusia Habitat for Humanity with a Tribute.

Southwest Volusia Habitat for Humanity

WHEREAS, since 1990, Southwest Volusia Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit ecumenical Christian housing ministry, has provided homes and shelter for those most in need in Southwest Volusia County, and

WHEREAS, Southwest Volusia Habitat for Humanity invites people of all backgrounds, races, and religions to build and renovate houses together in partnership with families in need, and

Raising Raise a House !!

Our Board members and volunteers have been very busy over the past few months raising the funding for our next house on S. Thorpe Av in Orange City.  We have reached out to the community, asking several churches and civic organizations to support our work and help our neighbors become homeowners.  We are very grateful to the River City Eagles of DeBary for making us their focus during August and giving us a donation for the house.  We are also grateful to Orange City United Methodist Church and the Islamic Center of Deltona for your donations.  With the support and assistance of our friends and neighbors, we look forward to beginning work on S. Thorpe Av any day now, so watch your email for volunteer opportunities !!  Thank you to all who have supported our efforts to get this home underway !!!

Give Local Day

thank you

Thank you to those who took part in Give Local East Central Florida 2015!

Give Local was a huge success - there were a total of 152 donations, and over $20,000 was donated to 36 local nonprofits serving the area of East Central Florida, that is Flagler, Putnam & Volusia Counties.  You opened your hearts and your wallets and made a difference for many families in our community.  The spirit of philanthropy is strong in our communities and collectively we have increased awareness for many important causes in the region.  Thank you so much!

Women Build 2015

charlies angelsWomen Build is Habitat for Humanity’s program for women who want to learn construction skills and build homes and communities. This program brings together women from all walks of life to address the housing crisis facing millions of women and children worldwide. No experience is necessary!  Since 2008, the week leading up to Mother's Day has been designated National Women Build Week.  This nationwide event is sponsored each year by Lowe's and has grown exponentially each year.

SW Volusia Habitat has particpated almost every year since National Women Build Week began.  In 2013 almost 60 ladies, over 6 work days raised the trusses and did the interior framing of a home for a single mom and her three daughters.  With a $5000 sponsorship from Lowe's and personal fundraising by our Women Build participants, that week raised over $10,000 toward the cost of that home.  This year, we will be working on two sites over four days to rehab homes for two families.  Wouldn't you like to be part of the excitement?  Space is limited, so register soon!

Chairs for Charity 2015

c4c crowdChairs for Charity 2015 is now one for the history books!  Gateway Center for the Arts was the location for this fantastic inaugural event.  With hors d'oeurves provided by local restaurants and caterers, music by the Stetson University Jazz Ensemble and 50 chairs to bid on, it was quite an evening!  Southwest Volusia Habitat for Humanity would like to thank all of our sponsors, volunteers and vendors for making Chairs for Charity such a success.  Simply put, without your hard work and donations, we could not build our next home!
