Volunteer Appreciation Dinner for 2013

key club volunteersEight University High School Key Club members set up and decorated the dining area, served the meal and even provided the musical interlude during the recent Southwest Volusia Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Appreciation Dinner.  Over 50 outstanding humanitarians were honored with recognition they so richly deserve at this fun Italian dinner.  With food provided by local restaurants, Goodfella’s and Olive Garden, and favorite desserts brought to share by the volunteers themselves, the evening proved to be time well spent !!!

A big thank you and pats on the back go out to the University High School Key Clubbers for a job well done providing support to the small group of Habitat volunteers coordinating the event.  What a pleasant experience to have such polite and enthusiastic young people pitching in to make the evening one to remember for our much appreciated volunteers.

They are the winners of the prestigious Golden Hammer Award, given annually in recognition of service and devotion to the ideals of Habitat for Humanity.  Cashiers Donna Croker, Dorothy Mazzola and Rick Vargas, furniture and appliance floor stocker Doug Graf and Assistant Manager Wayne Norwood are all excellent examples of servant leaders.  They have gone ‘above and beyond’ what has been expected of them in their job descriptions during this past year of restructuring within the affiliate.  They have not only held the ReStore together during a period of some uncertainty, they have also made it prosper!!! We are ALL so proud of their accomplishments!!! Stop by the SW Volusia Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 196 W. Blue Springs Av in Orange City, FL and congratulate them on a job well done!!!  To see more photos from the recent Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, visit our Facebook page

Thank you to our Community Partner- John Knox Village of Central Florida

deconstruction

SW Volusia Habitat for Humanity is extremely grateful to one of our generous community partners, John Knox Village of Central Florida.  They have generously donated the contents of three houses scheduled for demolition to Southwest Volusia Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore.  Habitat's professionally led and trained team of volunteers, including students from Stetson University’s Campus Chapter and Youth United, carefully removed donation items from the residences for resale at the Southwest Volusia Habitat ReStore located at 196 W. Blue Springs Avenue in Orange City.  This donation is environmentally friendly since the program diverts potential construction waste from local landfills.  Material donations are sold at a discount to the public which helps reduce the cost of home improvement and generates proceeds which go towards supporting Habitat for Humanity’s mission of building affordable homes for hard-working, low-income families.  Once their demolition and construction project is complete, John Knox will expand their full-service senior living community.  Thank you so much to John Knox Village of Central Florida !!
